Part three of the Sun Songs programs in the series of four – here’s Savage Music. This one starts off with a cut up of ‘Yellow Sunshine’ by Yellow Sunshine that he got from Downstairs Records in New York then into new psychedelic band The Assemble Head and a recent Bernard Sumner track. As ever, Savage is smart and informative.

It’s Sunday and time to post a new show from Jon Savage, this time starting with the words of Neil Armstrong, as we move into the first in a series of three shows focusing on the moon. As Savage says at the start, “why the moon? because it’s to do with the sub-conscious, because it’s beautiful and because it’s been a pop staple since the late years of the 19th century”. In my humble opinion these shows get better and better. Today we go from early early ambient, to the Grateful Dead, an old R&S record and more. This week’s Savage Sunday show is all about Beyond The Wizard’s Sleeve – the trip project of Erol Alkan and Richard Norris. As always it’s a great show. I ran into Richard Norris recently and hopefully he’ll get something together for us soon but until then dig in here.

Once again it’s Savage Sunday, this time with the focus on snakes. As Savage says in the introduction, “They are very beautiful, they hide most of the time and they don’t attack unless you tread on their tails, which is not a bad rule in life”.

It’s Savage Sunday. This time it’s 1966 that gets the overhall, the reason being that in Savage’s eyes ’66 was one of the best pop years ever with the end of mod and the start of psychedelia and is a pretty dark year before the hippy movement kick in in ’67. This one starts with the 13th Floor Elevators and moves from there… Bootleg central.

Following the last Savage radio show on the Motorik German sound, here he returns with a show based around gay records from 1961 – 1978 which links to his compilation on Trikont named ‘From The Closet To The Charts’. It begins with Rod McKuen (writer of ‘Blank Generation’) and ends with Sylvester’s ‘I Need Somebody To Love Tonight’. Track the compilation down if you enjoy the show.

If you enjoy the cosmic/kraut/motorik sound, or elektronische musik as Soul Jazz recently called it, then this radio show is for you. Jon Savage, our presenter, has interviewed many of the main players within the scene and here presents a show focusing on the sound, his love of it and interviewing the likes of Conny Plank. If you haven’t listened to any of the Savage radio shows this is a fine place to start.
