It has been a very balearic day. These also arrived in the post today courtesy of our friend Piers (who I should mention has a pretty essential looking book out soon – Italo-Disco: A Secret History of Modern Pop). Thanks Piers.

Straight steal from Shawn Stussy’s blog – here’s London’s chapter of the International Stussy Tribe in 1990 when Stussy was alive and kicking. As he says, ‘When it meant something, the original London chapter of buddies that kind of gravitated into a loose knit crew… Left to right, Michael Kopelman, James Lebon, Mick Jones, Barnzley and Alex Turnbull… This was a period when all this seemed so right, not strained or sponsored, done for the right reasons… I am very proud to have had a hand in this period of time, think of the wave that has followed…’. Classic style that’s style holding up today.

We are happy to have Andy M on board writing for us on his life in Jamaica as I’ve always loved the island and the music. A few years back we got to go on a trip to JA and ended up in some pretty interesting places. I’ll try and post a few more pictures but to start here’s Horace Andy’s studio (super nice chap who sat there singing for us with his mates and girl all sat about the place) and Miss Thing flexing. Mellow times.

Photographs: Dirt Box 83-86
December 31, 2009
These photos of the Dirt Box crowd circa 1983-1986 come courtesy of Hazel Taylor. For our ex-UK friends, the Dirt Box was an illegal drinking den that moved around London run by the infamous club face Phil Dirtbox. As you can see it was a time of amazing clothes, hair and jean shorts on Philip Salon. Thanks Hazel. x.
